Weiterbildung in Casino Spielen?

Posted by: granttorino on: July 22, 2010

US: Degree shortfall will hit economy hard

Posted by: granttorino on: July 14, 2010

America will need 22 million new degree-holders over the next eight years but will fall short of that number by at least three million, according to a new report. The nation will also have vacancies for at least 4.7 million new workers with post-secondary certificates and the shortfall will mean lost economic opportunity for millions of American workers, the report says.

In an example of what is happening in many countries around the western world, the report shows how the demand for skilled workers and university-trained graduates is rising much faster than the numbers graduating from universities and colleges. As the authors also note, the shortage is the latest indication of how crucial post-secondary education and training has become to national economies.

“[In the US] the shortfall amounts to a deficit of 300,000 college graduates every year between 2008 and 2018 and results from burgeoning demand by employers for workers with high levels of education and training.”

The report, Help Wanted: Projections of jobs and education requirements through 2018, was prepared by researchers at the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.

ITALY: ‘The best shoes in the world’

Posted by: granttorino on: July 14, 2010

Italian universities say they will be unable to pay their staff wages next year as the ramifications of government spending cuts hit home. The institutions face a budget cut of EUR1.3 billion (US$1.6 billion) or 17% of their current budget. Yet Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi seems not to care, declaring: “Why do we need to pay scientists when we make the best shoes in the world?”

The cuts were imposed by Finance Minister Giulio Tremonti in an attempt to reign in spiralling public debt. Confronted with this harsh reality Enrico Decleva, President of the Conference of Italian University Rectors, was left with no option but to admit financial defeat.

“Following these cuts, we will be left unable to pay wages,” Decleva said.

The government appears unconcerned. Despite the consensus of economic analysts who say it is necessary to increase investment in higher education and research during a period of recession, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi seems to hold another view, hence his comment about shoes.

The austerity measures have been embraced by Education Minister Mariastella Gelmini who has drafted a reform that is supposed to change the university system “without additional burdens on public finance”.

The reform, currently under discussion in the senate, introduces the ‘principle of merit’ into what for many years has been the undisputed reign of the so-called ‘baroni’ – the university professors and chancellors who have made nepotism their key scientific practice.

How Many Graduates Does It Take to Be No. 1?

Posted by: granttorino on: June 28, 2010

There will be no valedictory speech at Jericho High School’s graduation on Sunday. With seven seniors laying claim to the title by compiling A-plus averages, no one wanted to sit through a solid half-hour of inspirational quotations and sappy memories.

Instead, the seven will perform a 10-minute skit titled “2010: A Jericho Odyssey,” about their collective experience at this high-achieving Long Island high school, finishing up with 30 seconds each to say a few words to their classmates and families. “When did we start saying that we should limit the honors so only one person gets the glory?” asked Joe Prisinzano, the Jericho principal. In top suburban schools across the country, the valedictorian, a beloved tradition, is rapidly losing its singular meaning as administrators dispense the title to every straight-A student rather than try to choose the best among them.

Principals say that recognizing multiple valedictorians reduces pressure and competition among students, and is a more equitable way to honor achievement, particularly when No. 1 and No. 5 may be separated by only the smallest fraction of a grade from sophomore science. But some scholars and parents have criticized the swelling valedictorian ranks as yet another symptom of rampant grade inflation, with teachers reluctant to jeopardize the best and brightest’s chances of admission to top-tier colleges.

What is casino online gaming? It is an incredibly rich opportunity for you to play all of your favorite casino games from the comfort of your home. Many of the casino games offered are the same as those that you would find elsewhere, including in all of your favorite brick and mortar style casinos. However, you do need to keep in mind that each casino is different and because of that, you do want to check out your options before you invest.

One of the first things for you to do is to spend some time comparing the options you have in odds and betting. College Students and Internet Gambling

Posted by: granttorino on: May 24, 2010

Gambling has become increasingly popular in the United States. In 2005, gambling revenues in the United States were $84.65 billion. Legalized gambling is available, in some form, in 48 of the 50 United States. The growth of gambling has lead to increased rates of disordered gambling and is a significant public health risk.

Both problem and pathological gambling are associated with a host of serious health and social consequences including suicide, work and educational disruption, criminal arrest, financial difficulties, and familial disruption. Problematic gambling has also been associated with alcohol and drug use, eating disorders, depression and anxiety.

But do college students gamble more than the regular population? According to the Journal of Gambling Studies, 1.6% of the general population has engaged in pathological gambling with an additional 3.85% having experienced gambling related problems.

Gambling behavior and problem gambling of college students were investigated in universities far from and close to a large casino. A survey of 17 gambling activities was given and the South Oaks Gambling Screen was completed by 1579 students. Approximately half of the students were enrolled in universities near a casino and the other half far from a major casino.

Gender and proximity differences were hypothesized and observed. Males engaged in more gambling activities than females. Students close to a casino manifested more serious problem gambling than students far from a casino. Gender by proximity interactions are reported.

This investigation supports the idea that context and proximity to gaming venues may have exposure or accessibility effects on university students gambling behavior. Key words: problem gambling, gender and gambling, university student gambling, proximity of casino to university and gambling behavior.

Online Gambling among Uni Students

Posted by: granttorino on: April 20, 2010

Sports betting, keno, poker nights and online casinos are largely popular among university students worldwide. It provides students with a common ground for bonding and socialising while also making some money and having some fun.

Internet blackjack, or blackjack en ligne if they’re playing in France, is one of the most popular forms of gambling for college students as well as ‘Fantasy’ sports games such as football and basketball. As long as the student is over 18 and mindful of the cash they are spending this form of gambling does not seem to cause any problems.

However, one word of warning – if they are planning to play online poker or another casino game, it is recommended they choose the best online casino with the most secure software possible to eliminate any potential problems that may arise.
